Egypt Cairo Metro Line 4 eLTE project

Telecommunication systems for the Greater Cairo Metro Line 4 Phase 1.

Project overview

This Line 4 project foresees the development of a 42-kilometers line and 35 stations, in two development phases.

The first phase is expected to last 6 years, to deliver 19 kilometres, 16 stations, a depot, an Operations Control Centre. Phase 1 of Metro Line 4 will connect the centre of Greater Cairo to the Giza Pyramid Complex in southwest Greater Cairo and is expected to be heavily used by tourists, transporting them to the Pyramids site and the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

On December 3, 2024, HAC and Huawei Egypt officially signed the Phase 1 project of Cairo Line 4 of the National Tunnels Authority (NAT) of Egypt with Hitachi Rail GTS Italy. HAC and Huawei Egypt will supply and install the full scope of its Integrated Communication and Supervision systems (including radio, Multi Service Network, wayside telephone and wireless LAN systems, wayside equipment for security systems, Passenger Information and Public Address, Operations Control Centre) and Revenue collection solutions. This project is a battle to lay the foundation for the future urban planning of Egypt: 1. It completely lays the foundation for all subsequent urban rail standards in Egypt to be LTE-M; 2. HMN and Huawei have implemented LTE-M core network + bearer network + industry scheduling solutions, occupying the core technology high ground; 3. Reaching a strategic cooperation framework in Egypt with Hitachi Rail GTS, it has jointly locked in the reconstruction of Cairo Line 1, Alexandria Light Rail, Alexandria Tram, Line 4 Phase 2 and other lines.
